Tweed Valley Hospital, located in the Tweed-Byron Bay Region, NSW, is a $723.3 million hospital due to open 2024. The 7-storey hospital has 12 operating theatres, 430 beds, cardiology and integrated cancer services, saving 5,000 people significant travel time. The Tweed Valley Hospital is at the heart of the network of hospitals across the Tweed-Byron region and will provide health services for the growing population in the region beyond 2032.

Allmach supplied the installer with a Surepress 316L Stainless Steel Pressfit system that included 8,000m (8km) of Pressfit pipe and 10,000 pressfit fittings and about 50 prefabricated manifolds. These systems were used for the hospital’s hot and cold water, a reverse osmosis, a water purification system and a gas system.

Tweed Valley Hospital construction schedule was delayed due to several external pressures including the pandemic, the 2022 floods and construction labour shortages. This, in turn, impacted contractors’ timelines and costs, and put them under pressures to get the installation completed at the same time as other installations. Using prefabricated manifolds and Stainless Steel Pressfit piping systems saved the installer significant time and money during a tight installation time frame. The prefabricated manifolds arrived ready to install and the and pressfit system can be easily modified onsite to suit unforeseen installation challenges and requires no welding or hot works permits. The installer commented:

"The Surepress Stainless Steel Pressfit system is better than the copper system because we can press up 168mm, which you can’t do in copper. There were no leaks in the system during the installation, and the fast installed time helped us to keep down costs in a tight labour market."
