The Big Move: A New Warehouse, A New Era

The New Allmach Warehouse: A Game-Changing Move

Allmach recently undertook one of its biggest logistical challenges—moving to a new, larger warehouse in Moorebank, NSW. In this instalment of Allmach's 'People Behind the Brand' series, we speak to Andy Lai, Allmach's Warehouse Operations Manager, about his experience leading the move and what this shift means for the company.

Joining Allmach In the Middle of a Major Move

Andy has had a long career across warehouse logistics and different industries, so he is no stranger to the fast-paced world of warehouse operations. However, starting at Allmach right in the middle of one of the company's largest warehouse consolidations was a challenge even for this logistics veteran.

"I definitely hit the ground running," says Andy, reflecting on how he and the team successfully embraced unexpected multitasking opportunities.

From moving goods between warehouses, to personally driving trucks loaded with inventory, Andy didn't shy away from rolling up his sleeves and doing what was necessary.

"It wasn’t just me; the sales and customer services teams helped with picking, packing, and shipping products," he adds.

In fact, the team banded together to help make the move successful, with many flying in from interstate and over weekends to help. The entire team came together to pull off what Andy describes as a "monumental task", to minimise disruption for Allmach’s customers during this transition.

People are at the centre of what we do, and we’re thankful for the people who show up to Allmach every day with positivity, and solutions focused on their customer’s best interests.

Igniting Efficiency: The Impact of the New Allmach Warehouse

The move to Moorebank isn’t just about convenience; it’s about scaling the business while maintaining the high standards Allmach’s customers have come to expect. The result? Happier customers and a direct increase in sales and fulfilled orders. Allmach’s move has turned a logistical challenge into a game-changing success for both the company and its clients.

"Customers have really noticed the difference" Andy explains. The larger space and new layout have enabled Allmach to handle more orders than ever before, with fewer errors and faster processing. The central location has increased the ease of customer collections, providing clients with a more convenient and safer way to pick up urgent orders.

The move to Moorebank has ignited Allmach’s warehouse operations. By consolidating three smaller warehouses into one expansive location, Allmach has dramatically boosted its capacity, increasing output ten-fold. This centralised setup allows for more streamlined operations, improving speed and accuracy in fulfilling customer orders.

Warehouse Leadership in Action: Andy’s Hands-On Management Style

Andy leads by example, demonstrating he’s not the type to sit behind his desk all day.

"I don’t mind getting my hands dirty," he says, emphasising the importance of working alongside his team. For Andy, fostering a collaborative, respectful environment is key. This hands-on, down-to-earth management style aligns perfectly with Allmach’s culture, which is largely non-hierarchical, and where everyone’s input is valued.

Safety First: More Space, More Efficiency

The new Moorebank warehouse spans an impressive 4,000 square metres, significantly larger than the previous locations, which were much smaller by comparison. Andy notes that the added space has not only improved operational efficiency but also boosted staff morale.

"There’s more room to move, more light coming in, and overall, it’s just a better environment to work in."

This extra space has also led to inherent safety benefits. With more room to manoeuvre, there are fewer blind spots, and the larger staging area significantly reduces the risks of staff coming into contact with forklifts and pallets.

The move has also led to a host of practical improvements for staff. "We now have a bigger lunchroom and better kitchen facilities," says Andy, highlighting the everyday comforts that make a difference. He also notes the positive impact of natural light on the team's mood and overall well-being, contributing to a more enjoyable workspace.

Commitment to Growth: Andy’s Focus on the Allmach Warehouse and Team

Andy is relatively new at Allmach, but in that short time, he’s already seen how well the entire company works together, from the warehouse team to other departments including marketing, sales and customer experience.

"We’re all working towards the same goals," he says, proud of the incredible progress the team has made since the move.

For Andy, an ideal workday involves staying active, handling lots of orders, and having the opportunity to focus on improving processes. With the new warehouse in full swing, he’s excited to keep driving progress and contributing to the ongoing growth at Allmach, all aimed at enhancing the customer’s experience.
